About VoIP

How does a VoIP phonecard from Odenfone work?

A phonecard from Odenfone allows you to make low cost phonecards over the internet to any phone in many countries around the world. You simply pay for calling time in advance. Your voice is converted to digital format and sent via the internet to your destination.

VoIP

The technology is called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and does not demand any extra equipment: you call through your own landline or mobile to another landline or mobile in some other part of the world. It is because the phonecall is carried out via the internet that the costs can be so low. If you call with one of Odenfone's 6 phonecards you will not be able to tell the difference compared to a call made in the ordinary phone network.

Choosing a phonecard

Are there any hidden costs?

No, you speak for the full amount you have bought the phonecard for. If you make your call via our free access number there are no extra costs. If you call via our local number, you have to pay your normal phone provider's rates for a local call as well.To the majority of the destinations, you will receive the most number of minutes if you call via our local access number, but if you wish to have complete control over your expense, call via our free access number.

up

How many minutes do I get on my phonecard and how can I check my balance?

Under prices you can see a pricelist for each available Oden phonecard and decide which card suits your needs. When you use the card an automated voice will tell you how many minutes are left to your dialed destination before you get connected. Thus you do not get any unexpected surprises in the middle of your phone conversation. You also receive a warning that your money is soon running out when you have 3 minutes left on your card so that you have time to finish your call.

Why should I call with Odenfone?

Not only is it a lot cheaper to call with a phonecard from Oden, but it is also very easy to use. Making a call

How do I make a call with the phonecard?

You dial one of our access numbers:

Country Access Number
Austria (Tollfree) (43) 0800802099
Austria (National) (43) 720881500

Sweden (Tollfree) (46) 0200439969
Sweden (Stockholm) (46 8) 52500199

UK (Tollfree) (44) 08000988999
UK (London) (44 203) 3188000

US (Tollfree) (1) 08883495505
US (Chicago) (1 312) 2841700
US (Houston) (1 713) 4742444
US (LosAngeles) (1 323) 4432440
US (Newyork) (1 646) 5008666

Free access number - no extra charges are added when you call from your landline. In other words you only pay for the Oden phonecard, and nothing extra to your normal phone provider. The minute rates are slightly higher than that of our local access number, but you are in total control of your phone costs as no extra charges outside of the cost of the phonecard ($10) are added.
Local access number - you pay local rates to your normal phone provider for your landline. The minute rates are the lowest so you get the most number of minutes on your Oden phonecard by dialing the local access number.
This is how you call: dial the access number, choose language (2 for English), dial your PIN-code, and dial your full destination number (i.e. 00 + country code + are code + phone number) If you do not wish to press in your PIN-code every time you make a call, you can save the number on your phone by going to management menu by pressing *# as your destination number.

up

How long is the phonecard valid for?

The phonecard is valid 45 days from the first time you use the PIN-code. After that the card is expired and you must purchase a new one in order to make calls with our low rates.

up

Why am I receiving less minutes than what is shown on your pricelist?

This can be due to several factors. Maybe you have been calling from your mobile as well as from a landline, but only have checked the rates for a landline on our pricelist. Or you have been calling via our free access number, but checked the rates for our local access number on the pricelist. The rates vary depending on whether you call from a landline or a mobile, and whether you call via our free or local access number.Oden phonecards use the latest technology, however it is difficult to avoid roundings per 1 minute after each call as you pay for each started minute during your call. In other words you might have spoken for 23 minutes and 45 seconds, but this will be registered as 24 minutes on your card balance.

up

Why is my reception bad?

Sometimes the phonelines in certain countries have problems as they are not always serviced well. This problem can occur on the normal phoneline network too and is not specific for VoIP phone calls. Sometimes our servers are temporarily under a lot of pressure. Best way is to try again 10-15 minutes later. If the problem is consistent over a longer period of time and you are not happy with your Oden phonecard, contact our customer service department and we will try solve your problem or assist you with a new phonecard.

up

Receiving the PIN-code

How much time does it take before I receive my PIN-code?

When the payment has gone through (i.e. you have finished the 'check out' process) it only takes a few minutes before you receive a confirmation with the PIN-code sent to your email.

up

How will I receive my phonecard?

Your phonecard is not a physical card, but a PIN-code (Personal Identification Number) which you dial before you dial your destination number to identify that you are using the phonecard. The PIN-code is emailed to you as soon as you have bought it on our net shop.
